ADG Recruit Training
Like most organisations, the Australian Defence Force conducts its
own induction training for new members, known as Recruit Training.
Recruit training helps you become an effective member of the Royal
Australian Air Force. Recruit Training is conducted at RAAF Base
Edinburgh in South Australia at No 1 Recruit Training Unit.

ADG Basic Training
After graduating from Recruit Training, Airfield Defence Guards
undertake the ADG Basic Course (initial employment training) at the
RAAF Security and Fire School at RAAF Base Amberley in Queensland. This
course teaches you the basic skills to become a qualified ADG and
operate as an effective member of an Airfield Defence Squadron.

Advanced Training
Upon graduating from ADG Basic Course you will be posted to an
Airfield Defence Squadron. Experience gained during your posting will
reinforce the knowledge and skills learned on Basic Course, and you
will receive more advanced training in:
- tactics
- weapon systems
- communications equipment
- combat survival
- chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear defence
- marksmanship
- field engineering.
Your training will prepare you for deployments and exercises throughout Australia and overseas.

ADG Combat Survival Training
Combat Survival Training (COMSURV) teaches Airfield Defence Guards
separated from friendly forces in a combat environment (whether coastal
or in a desert or jungle) to evade capture and survive until rescued.
ADG Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Defence Training
All Airfield Defence Guards are provided with training in Chemical,
Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Defence (CBRND) to enable them to
continue to operate in a chemical, biological, radiological or nuclear
threat environment. As you progress in your career, you may instruct
others in CBRND protection and warfare.
ADG Tracking Training
As you progress in your career, you will have the opportunity to
undertake advanced tracking courses to further enhance your skills as
an Airfield Defence Guard.
Other ADG Training
As an Airfield Defence Guard you will have the opportunity to undertake many different types of training:
- Language training to act as an interpreter or linguist
- Instructional Techniques
- Weapons Instruction
- Workplace Assessor
- Driver Testing Officer
- Night-Fighting Equipment Advanced Operator
- Demolitions and Explosives Operator.
