Aircraft noise
Many Air Force aircraft are loud and, at the speeds some travel, the noise can catch people unprepared. This may surprise or frighten some people.
Air Force pilots generally avoid cities and towns except during public events or emergencies. Unfortunately some small communities are simply not shown on the aviation maps used by both Air Force and civilian pilots.
Similarly, aircraft operations are usually planned to comply with local noise curfews. However, the Air Force may train or operate by day or night in any weather in order to respond to threats or emergencies.
To report incidents of excessive aircraft noise please call the appropriate number for your area as listed below. Alternatively you could call the Defence enquiries line on 02 6265 2999 or visit the Defence website for more information.
All incidents are investigated to ensure our pilots are meeting the high standards we expect of them. Please include full details of the location of the incident, including the state and nearest town or city.
