NO. 76 SQUADRON

No 76 Squadron HawksOn 1 January 1989, No 76 Squadron, one of the Royal Australian Air Force's most famous fighting squadrons, reformed at RAAF Base Williamtown.

Although it distinguished itself during World War II as a premier fighter squadron, its current operational role is to conduct Introductory Fighter Training, Fleet Support and Close Air Support. To fulfil these roles the squadron operates the Hawk 127 Lead-In Fighter and is organised into two flights - Training Flight and Operations Flight.

Training Flight conducts three Introductory Fighter Courses (IFC) each year for newly-graduated pilots and pilots with extensive experience on other Air Force aircraft. The students then go on to F/A-18 or F-111 conversion courses.

Operations Flight is responsible for advanced jet training above and beyond what is taught during IFC, allowing pilots to enhance their flying skills, operational skills and leadership abilities. Operations Flight also provides Fleet Support to Navy and Close Air Support training to Army.
