Values
Esprit de Corps, Professionalism, Flexibility, Dedication, Courage, Excellence, Ethical Conduct and Communication.
Motto
The motto 'Enterprise' was coined by the City of Newcastle to summarise the progressive fostering of commerce, industry and culture and to symbolise the community spirit of the Citizens of the City of Newcastle.
26 Squadron's use of the word 'Enterprise' was conceived as a deliberate attempt to forge an additional link with the city from whom the Squadron takes its name. Against this background, the use of the same motto as the city accords with the notion of developing a badge and motto that has relevance and meaning in regard to the purpose of No 26 Squadron. Further, the word 'Enterprise' meaning: 'undertaking, especially bold and difficult ones; courage; readiness to engage in'; is also appropriate to the aims of an Active Reserve Squadron.
History
No 26 Squadron was established on 1 July 1981 at RAAF Base Williamtown. The squadron was given formal approval to be named “Number 26 (City of Newcastle) Squadron” by proclamation of the Lord Mayor, Councillor Cummings, on 19 August 1981. From the squadron’s small beginnings over 25 years ago, numbers have grown to approximately 170 Air Force Reserve personnel, all of whom are Hunter Valley residents from diverse walks of life – students, public servants, industry workers, etc.
No 26 Squadron is managed by a small cadre staff of Permanent Air Force (PAF) members, which includes the Commanding Officer, Warrant Officer Engineer and Orderly Room staff.
