There's
no such thing as a typical day for an Airman or an Airwoman in
the Air Force. The jobs are just so varied and your duties will
depend on the job you do.
In
short, if you have successfully completed Year 10, you are eligible
to become an Airman or Airwoman. Howevercertain careers require
you to have passed particular Year 10 subjects or reach a certain
medical standard.
All
Airmen and Airwomen start their Air Force career at No1 Recruit
Training Unit (1RTU) where you'll undergo about 10 weeks of basic
training. This involves learning about things like the customs
of the Air Force, drill, weapons training and all the basics of
Air Force life.
After
you have completed your initial training, most Airmen and Airwomen
undertake Specialist Category Training. This is your specific
job training for the career you are pursuing and its length will
vary depending on the job.
If
you already hold a trade qualification and are entering the Air
Force as a qualified applicant, you may not need to undergo Specialist
Category Training.
There
are also opportunities for further study. For example, you can
undertake a degree or diploma. If you can prove that the qualification
can assist you in your job, these courses may even be subsidised
by the Air Force.
As
an Airman or Airwoman in the Air Force, what you can expect to
earn largely depends on what job you are wishing to pursue. The
following gives you an idea of the starting salary you might expect:
