These profiles and stories were donated to the RAAF Museum by the Gold Coast Branch of the Air Crew Association.

Service Profile: Ray Drury

Ray Drury MVO AFC (ACA 17331) served as aircrew in the Royal Australian Air Force from 1944 to 1980.

During his lengthy service, Ray piloted Tiger Moths, Wirraways, Winjeels, Dakotas, Lincolns, Mysteres ,C-130s and F-111s.

He saw active service during the Malayan Emergency, flying Lincolns out of Singapore.

Ray's flying postings included CFS Canada, AETS, RAAF College, 1 Squadron, 34 Squadron, 36 Squadron and RAF 49 Squadron.

During his service life, Ray held a number of senior appointments, his final posting being Officer Commanding RAAF Base Amberley, with the rank of Air Commodore.

The quality of Ray's service was recognised through the awards of Member of the Royal Victorian Order and the Air Force Cross.
