Russell N. Law (ACA 17772) served in the Royal Australian Air Force from January 1950 to March 1984.

His pilot training took place at Point Cook, and his flying postings during his RAAF service were many and varied, including exchange postings with the Royal Air Force and the United States Navy.

Russ flew a total of 62 types of fixed-wing aeroplanes during his Air Force career, covering a range of fighters, transport, bomber and maritime aircraft. He also flew rotary-wing aircraft (helicopters), and as a Test Pilot School graduate, was involved in the test flying of a variety of aircraft types.

He experienced active service in Korea and during the Malayan Emergency.

During his long service to his country, Russ held a variety of middle-level and senior executive staff appointments.

Before retirement in 1984, holding the rank of Air Vice-Marshal, his final appointment was Air Officer Commanding (AOC) Operational Command.
