These profiles and stories were donated to the RAAF Museum by the Gold Coast Branch of the Air Crew Association.

Service Profile: Jack Marley

J.D.(Jack) Marley DFC was an aircrew member of the Royal Australian Air Force, serving during World War 2 from February 1942 to December 1945.

Starting his training at Initial Training School Kingaroy, Queensland, he then went to Air Observer School (AOS) Edmonton, Canada, under the Empire Air Training Scheme (EATS).

His next posting was to the United Kingdom for further training at No. 4 (O) Advanced flying Unit (AFU) West Freugh, No.  17 Operational Training Unit (OTU) Turweston and Silverstone, followed by No. 1654 Conversion Unit (CU) Wigsley, then No. 5 LFS Syerston. At the completion of his extensive training, he was posted to RAAF No. 467 Squadron, Waddington.

During his training, Jack flew as a crew member in Avro Ansons, Wellingtons. Stirlings and Lancasters.

Jack experienced active service with No. 467 Squadron in the European theatre, flying operations as a Navigator in Lancasters.

In recognition of his meritorious service, he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, and was discharged from the RAAF on demobilisation, holding the rank of Flying Officer.
