Marshall Collection

Squadron Leader Walter David Marshall served with Bomber Command over Europe during World War II, and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross during a tour of duty with No 467 Squadron, RAAF. Recently donated by the Marshall family of West Lothian in the United Kingdom was a collection of memorabilia relating to the wartime service of Marshall, including medals, uniform items, and the transmit button from one of No 467 Squadron's Lancaster bombers that he flew between August 1943 and May 1944.

E. J. Jones, MC, DFC

Recently the RAAF Museum received yet another significant addition to the collection, the Military Cross and Distinguished Flying Cross awarded to Captain Ernest James Jones, who served with No 3 Squadron of the Australian Flying Corps. There is an interesting local connection; on 7 August 1924, Jones and his two-man crew left Point Cook in a DH50 biplane on a round-Australia flight, returning to Melbourne 23 days later. The purpose of the flight was a check of all aerodromes and aerial routes throughout Australia for the Civil Aviation Branch.

Father and Son Logbooks

A unique collection was recently donated by Wing Commander David Marks (Retired), incorporating items from his own 19-year career as a RAAF Navigator, as well as the logbooks of his father, who was a flying instructor with the RAAF between 1940 and 1945. Wing Commander Marks' father, James Arthur Marks, left the RAAF and was instrumental in the formation of New England Airways, later to become a part of the Australian National Airways group.
