Maurice Farman Shorthorn
No images yet! When acquired by the RAAF Museum in 1981, the Maurice Farman Shorthorn project consisted of one complete wing panel, several wing ribs, a rudder, an assortment of vertical struts, four ailerons, the undercarriage skids and several undercarriage struts. As a result, all of the other parts of the aircraft needed to be constructed from scratch, and the Museum was fortunate enough to acquire an original MF.11 propeller and a suitable engine on loan from the Australian War Memorial.
Between 1986 and 1993, Museum staff and volunteers put in countless hours to repair and remanufacture aircraft components. Original components were used as patterns to make missing parts, and the original fabric coverings were studied to replicate the materials and methods used at the time. Additionally, the other surviving CFS Shorthorn in Ottawa, Canada, provided a useful reference for some details of the aircraft.
