ROULETTE Leader
Squadron Leader Glenn Canfield
Glenn, 34, grew up in Central Victoria before joining the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) in 1994. After completing a Bachelor of Science in Physics at the Australian Defence Force Academy, Glenn went on to complete flying training on the PC-9/A and AS350B Squirrel helicopter.
Glenn then flew the HS748 for the RAN and the RAAF conducting operations throughout Australia, New Zealand and South-East Asia. In 2002 Glenn completed Flying Instructors’ Course and was posted to teach at the Australian Defence Force (ADF) Basic Flying Training School on the CT-4B.
In January 2006, after a short tour on the Super Seasprite Helicopter, Glenn transferred across to the RAAF to take up a posting at CFS as an instructor.
Glenn has 4600 hours flying experience, with over 1800 hours instruction. This is his fourth season with the Roulettes and first as Roulette Leader.
ROULETTE Two
Flight Lieutenant Paul Henry
Paul, 34, was born and raised in Traralgon, Victoria. He joined the RAAF in 1995 and graduated from No 173 Pilots’ Course in 1997. Paul was posted to fly the C-130H Hercules, based at RAAF Base Richmond, NSW, and participated in various operations and exercises throughout the world including two deployments to the Middle East.
In 2004 Paul completed Flying Instructors’ Course and instructed on the CT-4B in Tamworth, NSW. He then returned to RAAF Base Richmond and instructed on the C-130H Hercules for 18 months. In 2007 Paul was posted to Central Flying School (CFS) as an instructor.
Paul has over 4200 flying hours and this is his second season flying as Roulette Two.
ROULETTE Three
Flight Lieutenant Bevan Lorschy
Bevan, 36, is originally from Sydney. He worked in the financial services industry and also as a civilian flying instructor before joining the RAAF in 1997. He graduated from No 178 pilots’ course in 1999 and was posted to fly the AP-3C Orion with No 11 Squadron based at RAAF Base Edinburgh, SA. In 2006, after completing Flying Instructors’ Course, Bevan was posted to No 2 Flying Training School (2FTS) at RAAF Base Pearce in WA and instructed on the PC-9/A for two years. He also instructed on the AP-P3C Orion for a year before being posted to CFS as an instructor in 2009.
Bevan has 3700 hours military flying experience, including over 1200 hours on the PC-9/A. This is his first season with the Roulettes.
ROULETTE Four
Squadron Leader Matt Plenty
Matt, 39, was born in Canberra but spent most of his childhood in Darwin. He joined the RAAF in 1989 completing flying training on the CT-4A and Macchi 326H on 154 pilots course, and then went on to fly the DHC4 Caribou with both No 38 Squadron and No 35 Squadron. Matt's other postings include Headquarters Northern Command, as Brigade Air Liaison Officer at 3 Brigade Headquarters, and various operational deployments overseas. In 2000 Matt completed Flying Instructors’ Course and was posted to teach at the ADF Basic Flying Training School on the CT-4B, followed by an exchange posting to the Royal Air Force to fly the Tucano T Mk1 in the United Kingdom.
Matt joined CFS in 2006 and has over 5600 hours including 1800 hours instructing. This is Matt’s third season flying with the Roulettes.
ROULETTE Five
Flight Lieutenant Adam Robinson
Adam, 36, grew up in Glenelg, South Australia and worked in hospitality management and as a fishing charter skipper before joining the RAAF in 1999. After graduating from No 185 Pilots’ Course Adam saw service in various operations and exercises flying the AP-3C Orion at No 10 Squadron, based at RAAF Base Edinburgh, SA.
In 2007 Adam completed Flying Instructors’ Course and taught on the PC-9/A at 2FTS, based at RAAF Base Pearce in WA, before returning to CFS as an instructor in 2007.
Adam has over 3000 flying hours and this is his third season with the Roulettes, having previously flown as Roulette Three and Roulette Six.
ROULETTE Six
Flight Lieutenant Tim Borella
Tim, 47, grew up on a farm near Kerang, Victoria, and graduated from No 125 Pilots’ Course in 1983. His first posting was to fly UH-1H Iroquois helicopters with No 35 Squadron, based at RAAF Base Townsville, QLD. Since then he has flown a variety of fixed and rotary wing aircraft in the Australian Defence Force including Iroquois gunships, AS350B Squirrels and Bell 206 helicopters, and the DHC4 Caribou.
Tim has served on peacekeeping forces in East Timor, Egypt and Israel, and flown on tasks in New Guinea and Vanuatu.
Tim has over 3000 hours as an instructor on CT-4As, PC-9/As, Iroqouis and Squirrels, and has nearly 9000 total flying hours.
In a previous posting, Tim flew three seasons in the Roulettes as Roulette Two and Six, and is returning to the team this season, again as Roulette Six.
ROULETTE 7
Flight Lieutenant Allister Berryman
Allister, 29, was born in Launceston, Tasmania, and joined the RAAF in 2002. He underwent flying training on the CT-4B and PC-9/A aircraft and graduated from No 196 Pilots’ Course in 2004. On completion of flying training he was posted to No 33 Squadron at RAAF Base Richmond to fly the Boeing 707 air-to-air tanker. Allister has been involved in various operations around the world, including Operations Tsunami Assist and Pakistan Assist, and continued to fly the B707 until its retirement from service in June 2008.
Allister has over 1500 hours flying experience. This is his third season with the Roulettes.
